The water commissioning event organized by the DSK WOP 3 project took place at the CRP Auditorium in Mirpur-14 on October 2, 2024. The event was graced by the Ambassador of EKN, Van Dueren; and the special guest was the managing director of Dhaka WASA, Md. Fazlur Rahman; DSK Executive Director Dr. Dibalok Singha, and Mr. Shahid Uddin, Deputy Managing Director (Operations and Maintenance) of Dhaka Wasa. This important event was moderated by Mr. Romano Radjkoemar, Residential Project Manager, VEI.
Chief Guest Van Dueren said, “It was really great to visit the slum dwellers of Abul in Mirpur for the first time. The joy and laughter I saw among the people during the inauguration of the water point here is amazing! She also mentioned that we need to focus on how to involve the deprived people in this development. Besides, she expressed her sincere thanks to all those who are working to provide safe water.”
It should be noted that the slum dwellers of Abul in Mirpur were suffering from a water shortage for a long time. The water point (stand post) and community toilet, which will open new horizons to solve the water problem of the area, were officially inaugurated through today’s ceremony. A total of 332 families live here. 7 community toilets and 16 new water points (Stand Post) have been established under the DSK WOP 3 project, besides the renovation of 12 water points. Apart from this, a hygiene corner has also been set up in 1 shop. Staff from DSK at various levels, along with representatives from development organizations such as BRAC, Sajeda Foundation, Dhaka WASA, WOP, and other slum residents, attended the event.
